Kode9 + The Spaceape - Memories of the Future
Dubstep is still a genre that is dominated by the 12” format. However there are classic full album length records being made. Recently Soundscaping have reviewed Burial’s self-titled record. This time around our attention turns to another release from the guys at Hyperdub. Hyperdub label boss kode9 and resident vocalist the Spaceape takes us on a trip ‘one step forward and two steps back’. The dark-and-tough rhythms caress our senses and slowly transport us to an imaginary place where the mixture between modern beat based music and old-school beat based music merge. The slight change of pace between the tracks make the record a real enjoyment to listen to. Spaceape’s dark dictations accompanies us on this journey and forms a consistent thread through kode9’s loping rhythms.
I don’t think a record such as ‘Memories of the Future’ deserves to be broken down into bits. This is a great record that can stand on its own feet, and deserves to be listened to as a full length album. ‘Memories of the Future’ captures the melancholic aspect of music bathed in bass, and through the repeating darkened hums of the spaceape it lulls the listener enough to dull the underlying angst. Soundscaping highly recommends this great album.
