Pleq's Ballet Mechanic
For readers of Soundscaping the artist known under the pseudonim ‘Pleq’ is well known. This young musician has previously caught the attention of yours truly. The production rate of Bartosz Dziadosz, a.k.a. Pleq, is above average, although still far off from the seemingly workaholic Machinefabriek.
Ballet Mechanic is released on ‘Basses Frequences’, who’ve previously released works by Celer and Nicholas Szczepanik. The latter recently appearing on The Wire’s 25th Tapper edition.
The opening track, Ballet Mechanic, gives the sensation of being in a dark forest, by a lake with an eerie anticipation of change. The audiative darkness seemingly keeps on growing, threatening to engulf the listener. This is one of my favorite track of the album. The ten minutes never seems to be too long.
First to fall is a colder, more direct track. The darkness of the opening track is gone, and has been replaced by more tension. The changing atmosphere continues with the third track, once upon a time. A track that has a somewhat lighter feel, with more motion, more sounds and a higher tempo.
The centrepiece of Ballet Mechanic is Good Night. Soundscaping have previously reviewed this track. I am happy to tell that it is still a track that I like. Pleq turn back to the more monotonous sound, although it has an easier feel. I am particularly fond of the piano sound that adds a layer to the track.
The second to last track, That Is Really The End, slowly builds up a complex collage of sound. It captures the attention of the listener, and remains on the edge of how dense it should be. The bass in the background and another repeating sound holds this track together.
The last track, The Harvest, is a massive half hour finale. With a constant rhythm and a background sound is reminds me in some degree to the opening track. The darkness and the tension keeps rising, to a poin, before slowly decrease.
After reviewing the single Good Night, I eagerly anticipated this release. I think Ballet Mechanic lives up to my anticipations. I will be definitively have an eye out for this promising artist.
