Not content with visiting Oslo only as part of the national By:larm festival – Norway’s passable answer to the US counter-part SWSX, Christian Fennesz pays the north of Europe yet another visit on Saturday 4th April under Blå‘s own concept Klubb Vriompeis.
Fennesz needs little introduction – being one of the biggest household names in electronic music with 4 releases to his name – all released to growing, critical acclaim – and his fourth – Black Sea on his home in the seminal English label Touch made it to several noteworthy best-of lists from 2008.
Fennesz’ recipe is elegant and simplistic – with guitar as main instrument and the intention to make it sound as little as possible as exactly that – through distortions and processing it takes on various hues of high and low frequencies, noise and microsound. Besides his own solo work, Fennesz has made a name through his notable collaborations with other peers in the field of experimentation; Ryuichi Sakamoto, Mike Patton, Keith Rowe and lastly as part of the Fenn O’Berg trio with Peter Rehberg and Jim O’Rourke – resulting in a series of live collaboration and project-related releases.
Fennesz will also play in Oslo as mentioned above as part of By:larm (gig info here) in a collaboration with the improvising former quartet-now-become-duo Food – of Molecular Gastronomy fame on Rune Grammofon.
