Home is Normal

It is halfway through 2009, and Ian Hawgood’s (Koen Park, etc.) curated Home Normal has already sprung to life with no less than four must-grab releases. Nothing short of the favourite label at our Soundscaping office these days, and for this feature we direct our attention to the label’s first three albums, signed Library Tapes, Celer and The Boats. OFFF Festival, Lisbon, Portugal - May 7th-9th 2009

We have been quiet for a little while, but Soundscaping are still here, just assuming the slow and meticulous pace of heat-induced summer daze. But before that, Soundscaping had the pleasure of attending the OFFF festival for digital art and music, held in Lisbon, Portugal May 7th-9th. This is our report from the warehouse venue in the sleepy little suburban town by the Portugese coast.

Mark Peter Wright - A Quiet Reverie

A Quiet Reverie investigates the ruined abbeys of North East England, and creates a sonic experience from the architecture, space and surrounding natural environment. By relocating, transferring and manipulating records from the ruined abbeys, the work connects each location in a metaphorical and sonic chain. It explores sounds inherent ability to spill between time and sense and into other percieved realms and modes of perception and listening.

The Music of Dakota Suite

Digging in the crates, it is time to bring out the two relatively recent albums of a new favourite here at the Soundscaping office. Dakota Suite is the band of Chris Hooson, Liverpudlian and Everton FC supporter (yay!), who works with a small crew of regulars and guest musicians to deliver some of the best melodies based around piano, guitar and strings, both vocal and instrumental. In this dig in the record vault, we focus on the last two instrumental albums, Dakota Suite’s “The End of Trying” and the remix album “The Night Just Keeps Coming In”.

About Soundscaping.net

Soundscaping was started in 2005 primarily to become an online resource directed at the Norwegian music scene, predominantly music which involves an element of electronica. 2008 will also see the launch of Soundscaping Records, an independent label with a focus on quality releases in the same music genres promoted by the Soundscaping netzine.

Soundscaping now offers RSS feeds of recent updates to the web-site, just drag or click the RSS-icon displayed in the left column into your RSS-reader of choice to stay right up to date with Soundscaping news. Adjacent to the RSS-icon, you’ll also find the little Digg guy (Digg!-guy) so you can easily digg Soundscaping stories; and there’s also a quick link bookmark pages into your Del.icio.us icon (del.icio.us) account.

Falling from the sky soundwaves… let the sonic excursions into new, electronic music begin.
